Artist residency in Zermatt.

Bahay Contemporary is excited to announce its new research residency program in Zermatt.

The residency is by invitation only and aims to provide an artistic retreat in the mountains for two to four weeks (with private accommodation and a weekly stipend included). Artists are invited to use their time in the mountains to further explore their artistic reflection, process, and/or projects.

Zurich-based artist Tetiana Kartaseheva (b. 1989) was our first artist-in-residence in August/September 2024. Tetiana’s artistic practice explores the random order of nature and the rational order of rhythm, pattern, and perfect angles. She finds inspiration in the organic silhouettes and patterns she encounters outdoors. Many of her pieces address ecological themes, focusing on the relationship between nature and humanity, while also exploring deeply personal and metaphysical themes. Tetiana translates these experiences into visually balanced, carefully calibrated, lightweight compositions, which then become the subjects of her minimalist drawings, collages, paintings, and installations. Her works reflect the delicate balance in our relationship with a “planetary garden” and invite us to reconnect and rediscover our inner peace.

Zermatt is home to a rich variety of flora and fauna, a blooming paradise for nature lovers. We were excited to host Tetiana and see how the local endemic plants observed during her stay further inspire her work.
